Big Shift
I used to be a metal kid. Well teenage metal. Grunge, Metallica, lots of stuff that I pretty much dropped when I first heard Orbital's Brown album when I was 15 or 16. I was always really picky about the vocals on some extreme music. This album by Sloath got me listening again. It sounds like part post rock, theres a definite hit of Rano Pano on 'The piece' and of course Sunn O)) who I still hadn't broken into at the time. There's blusier stuff on here but the opener wa

Jah Wobble, Brian Eno, Regis and a bell?
The Spinner album from Jah Wobble and Brian Eno has been a major listen recently. I think it was Jah Wobble adding to versions of a score that Eno had written for a Derek Jarman film called Glitterbug. It almost has the sound of The Orb (Orbus Terrarum period) without the samples. Very mid 90's in a fantastic way. There is one track that had this sound that really reminded me of an amazing track I heard a couple of years ago. Its on the second track Like Organza and its a b

Everything Breaks
This was at the end of Four Tets final Corsica studios set and to be honest wiped the floor with anything that Id hear in the previous couple of hours. Shazam to the rescue! It came back with this title which I then tried and was thoroughly un wowed. Hmmmm Then I saw that there was a live album and bam. The whole album is stunning. So much energy and they transform this track into a real moving creature. The one on the record seems so flat after this. Enjoy! And Also the

Wild Horses
I'm still unsure how I've come to love Prefab Sprout so much. There is something so genuinley emotionally raw fromm their songs. There's usually a couple of tracks on an album that nearly bring me to tears. I think they've been in my life now for about 10 years and Jordan the comeback is only the Third that I own. First it was Swoon and the difficuly pop of Dont Sing and Cue Fanfare. Then on to Steve McQueen. I havent pushed it, I've almost let each album come to me when

The Affectionate Punch
I've been listening to a lot of Geordie Greep recently and then came across this track after deciding to a little dive into The Associates (trevor Horn book again). There definitley feels like there is some energy from this that has made its way through to him.

Duck Rock
It was about two years ago that I first heard this album. Id of course heard buffalo girls when I was little but it was just there in my memory as a novelty. It was Double Dutch that brought me to it. I'd come back again after reading the Trevor Horn biogrophy. What an album. It sounds incredible still. From the serene opening of Obotala, there is so much varity and invention in 43 short minutes. Love those two tracks but there is something so beautiful about Soweto! Now

One week later a pretty decent copy arrived at my door. There were two other moments that I really loved, check out tyheend of track 2, Hands Straighten the Water! And at 53 seconds in the last track there is another gorgeous vocal peice that is al
